Interview with Maggie Adams for Whistlin' Dixie

Hi! I'm Maggie Adams. I live near St. Louis, MO, with my high school sweetheart, Ned, and my wonderful kids, Katie (Kyle) and Ross (Valerie). My life is like a walking, talking sitcom from I Love Lucy, but I love it, although people do tend to keep their distance from me!

Writing has always been my dream, with reading my favorite hobby. When I’m not writing, I can be found singing, dancing, and cooking, often all at the same time. I try to include a little bit of my life in everything I write, so when you read my books, keep your eyes wide open - I'm in there somewhere! Happy reading!

I love to hear from readers and I can be contacted at maggieadamsbooks@gmail.com.

What’s story heat level?  I guess that depends on what a person feels is hot! There’s definitely an erotic edge to Whistlin’ Dixie, the chemistry is intense and the sex scenes are definitely on fire! Whistlin’ Dixie rides the edge between contemporary romance and erotic romance.
How do you approach the sex scene? With a glass of wine and a cigarette for after! Just kidding!
I let the characters decide. I know that may sound cliché’, but as the characters unfold, so does the chemistry and it just takes flight. Sexual fantasy!
How do you maintain activity as a writer sitting all day? Actually, as a new author, I still have a day job so I’m pretty active all day. I own a daycare, so the little ones keep me hopping! I do most of my writing at night and on the weekends.
What is it that you loved about characters in story?  I love that my female lead is strong. She loves her family and will show it. I also love my male lead because despite his alpha male ego, he shows his softer side with honor and responsibility to his family, friends and community.
What do you feel is your strongest type of writing? Life is hard so I like to provide humor whenever possible. Sex can be funny, loving, messy and truly romantic if it’s written well.
What are some things from your life that infused in stories? Haha! This is easy! I grew up in the Grafton, IL area, which is the setting for my series! Plus, my husband is one of seven brothers and I picked a particular quality of each brother to emphasize in my series.
If you had unlimited budget, where would I visit for story? I would love to visit Scotland! It’s in my blood! And all those handsome men in kilts…….whew! Is it hot in here?!
Any fun facts about the research? Well, I knew I needed a cover, and while I was researching that, my friend was busy taking engagement pics of my daughter and her fiancee’. When I saw the pic of her standing on the box, I just knew it was the one. The barn door background, her, so short, but standing up to him with a sassy grin, yep, that was definitely Dixie’s character. And him, looking down at her, trying to be stern, but he can’t because she’s just so adorable, that was definitely Mac.
Tell us about your newest release – Whistlin’ Dixie is full of fun, laughter and a sexy ever after. It’s a contemporary romance with subtle undertones of suspense and erotica. I believe readers can relate to the characters, they are not perfect, they are flawed and insecure. Mac Coalson wants to rebuild his hometown after a devastating flood and he’s hampered by vandals. Dixie Harris is the new schoolteacher with a hot temper. Her brother is accused of the vandalism and she blows into the police station like a tornado. It’s a not-so-cute meeting, but no one can deny the attraction. But misunderstandings and fear make their relationship rocky to say the least. It takes the entire town to bring them together, but the vandal is determined to keep them apart – and he’s not afraid to use whatever means necessary to do it.

Blurb:
A man on a mission....

Mackenzie Coalson was determined to rebuild his hometown after a devastating flood left it in ruins. He has no time for a relationship and all the romantic junk that goes with it. He has a vandal to catch and no sweet smelling bundle of femininity is going to sway him.

A woman protecting her family.....

Dixie Harris charged into the county sheriff's office with a sassy sway and a smart mouth, eager to give the sheriff, and anyone else, a piece of her mind. When she locks horns with the devil himself, in the form of Mac Coalson, she quickly learns he has a temper to rival hers, even if he's the living epitome of her sexual fantasies.

When the two unite to catch a potential murderer, it's in everyone's best interest to keep it, "business only". But that's hard to do when their combined attraction is volatile enough to burn down the town.

Excerpt:Dixie smiled back, but her smile slowly faltered as Mac grabbed her hand, and drew her into his arms. Dixie didn’t know what to do. She was pretty sure this was not proper business protocol. Alarm bells were going off in her head, but heaven help her, she didn’t want to move. Since meeting this man last night, her mind had conjured up all sorts of ideas about his hands; fantasizing about how it would feel to be held in his strong arms-absolutely wonderful. To have his fingers lightly touched her cheek… With a jolt of awareness, Dixie realized she was almost purring. His lips were coming closer. He was most definitely going to kiss her. Her knees began to shake at the mere thought of it. The phrase “Devil’s playmate” floated across her jumbled mind as he bent his head, blocking out the light.

At the first touch of her sweet lips, Mac’s mind and body rocked with desire. Never before had such an innocent kiss robbed him of his self-control. But she was so warm and sweet; she even tasted like bubblegum. He almost laughed out loud, but it would’ve meant breaking the exquisite contact. He wasn’t about to do that. Not when he had her exactly where he wanted her. Well, not exactly, he amended in his mind. He wanted her naked and writhing underneath him, but this was neither the time nor the place. Although the door did have a lock….
Maggie will award a $20 GC to Amazon or Barnes and Noble to one randomly drawn winner during the tour!
