Excerpt:

She pulled his bearded face up to look at him. The core of her froze the second she realized his eyes weren’t the eyes she remembered. “What has happened?”

“You’re not supposed to be here. They’re trying to keep you from seeing—remembering too much of this place.” He dropped his starry gaze to her mouth and sealed his lips to hers in the same raw fervent desire they’d always shared. Their tongues dueled in desperate passion. Her needs sparked into a blaze. Strike after lover’s strike her desire soared higher, filling every thought, every emotion in her. His passionate kisses consumed her. Heaven was the closest comparison she had to what she was feeling—total love.

He murmured something about their need to say goodbye, but the heat of his caressing mouth only stirred her ecstasy. It’s been so long since he kissed her like this. An odd pain shot through her body as she tried to recall why their love had changed. The answer was at the tip of her tongue, and she was about to remember when a dark, dense sensation crept into her mind. Before she could obsess over it, Ortello’s wonderful, roaming hands made her respond to him, instead of thinking. Whatever she had forgotten couldn’t be important or she’d have remembered it. Her body prickled; hadn’t she thought that before about something important? She let go, moaning as she laced her fingers into his silky hair.

#BookBlast On Her Watch by Rie Warren @RieWrites

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Rie will be awarding a Kindle format ebook of In His Command, In His Sights, and On Her Watch plus a Don't Tell series swag bag to a randomly drawn winner via the Rafflecopter at the end of this post during the tour (swag bag is US ONLY). Remember, the more stops you visit and comment, the better your chances to win.

The year is 2071 and all hell has broken loose. As the government tries to control the territories that were once the United States, an armed rebellion erupts . . .

AWOL from her military post, Lieutenant Liz Grant will do anything for the rebels she now calls friends. Her latest mission: return to the Beta Corps army and obtain classified information that could turn the battle in the revolutionaries’ favor. There’s only one problem: Commander Linc Cutler.

Strong, coldly handsome, and always in control, Linc is perplexed by the beautiful soldier brought in for questioning. He doesn’t know if he believes her explanation for why she went missing. He only knows his intense sexual desire for her cannot be denied.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

The troopers backed away from me, out of the office, closing the door behind them. I watched Linc, releasing a smile. His guards had left me fully armed and operational with my two babes, chrome Desert Eagle 44 mag dates from hell, holstered on my hips. Seeing him unarmed—hands pressed behind his back--made me think he might be as foolhardy as the Freelanders, but I doubted it.

I didn’t have to doubt for long.

Sharp jaw, full lips, and his arrogant nose showed in profile when he calmly mentioned, “If you even think about going for your sidearms, you’ll be dead before you make a move, Lieutenant Grant.”

My gurgled laugh hurt my bruised ribs. “I might be willing to test that theory.”

Movements fast and liquid, he came at me and cornered me under one of the cameras. Hands braced on either side of me, Linc’s breath brushed across my temple. “You’re in no position to test me, Liz.”

Hot restraint rolled off him. Not a single muscle moved from the breadth of his chest held a scant space from my breasts to his rugged shoulders straining the seams of his shirt.

My gaze flashed to his, the burning blue brightness unraveling my protective shell. No man had ever affected me like this. My short fingernails tapped the holstered Eagles in warning. A warning that had no effect on Linc as his breath dragged deeper, filling out his chest until it came flush to mine.

A Yankee transplant via the UK and other wild journeys, Rie happily landed in Charleston, South Carolina, with her English artisan husband and their two small daughters--one an aspiring diva, the other a future punk rocker. After earning her degree in Fine Arts, Rie promptly gave up paintbrushes and canvas for paper and pen (because she decided being a writer was equally as good an idea as being an artist, of course it was). That was fifteen years ago, her writing career started! With a manuscript of super epic proportions! Safely stored under a lace doily in a filing cabinet. Possibly in England . . .

Since then she's done this and that, here and there, usually in the nonprofit arena, until she returned to her dream of being a writer. Even though Rie basks in the glorious southern sunshine as often as she can, she's mostly a nocturnal creature adjourning to her writer's atelier (spare bedroom) in search of her next devious plot twist or delicious passionate tryst.

No matter what genre or gender pairing she's writing, she combines a sexy southern edge with humor and heart--and a taste of darkness.

The world is not ending and neither is the Mayan Calendar

But if it was, I'd want cake. Chocolate cake of course. All of it. Every last morsel.

However, since the end of the 13th Mayan bak'tun cycle really doesn't mean the end of the world, I'll settle for something a little lighter to eat. Christmas feasts are heavy, after all, and I have one on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas Day.

If the world was ending, I think I'd be slightly more panicked (read: a lot more panicked though there'd be nothing I could do about it). And probably wouldn't have done all my Christmas shopping.

So let's say the world was ending and you had only 1 hour notice (phones, internet, wifi all works, this is a what if scenario). Granted, most of us would find family members, cry, pray, possibly run into the streets screaming. But let's have fun with this.
Would you
A) Eat cake?
B) Call your ex?
C) Lay naked on ground?
D) Tell your customers/co-workers/fellow whoevers what you really think of them?
E) Think on what craziness you want to do for that entire hour and then have little to no time implementing said craziness?
F) Say yes to anything right in front of you at that moment?

NASA has prepared a press release for Dec. 22 titled "Why the World Didn't End Yesterday."
"The whole thing was a misconception from the very beginning," says Dr. John Carlson, director of the Center for Archaeoastronomy.  "The Maya calendar did not end on Dec. 21, 2012, and there were no Maya prophecies foretelling the end of the world on that date."

Mayan apocalypse: End of the world, or a new beginning?

Simon Martin is curator of the University of Pennsylvania Museum, Philadelphia's "Maya 2012" exhibition. He says the calendar is complex, and best thought of as a series of gear wheels. He points out that at a Mayan site in Palenque, Mexico, there is an inscription describing an event that takes place in 4,722 of our era, "and that is the turning of an even bigger cycle", he says.He adds that technically this is also not the start of a new cycle. In 3114 BCE the calendar reset to zero with the turning of the 13th bak'tun (which is a smaller, 400 year cycle). This time, however, it does not reset to zero but merely goes on to the 14th bak'tun. "The Mayan Calendar is a weird and wonderful thing," he says.

The Real Deal: How the Mayan Calendar Works
Three calendars
The first thing to understand is that the Maya used three different calendars. The first was the sacred calendar, or Tzolk'in, which lasted 260 days and then started over again, just as our 365-day calendar refreshes once it hits Dec. 31. This calendar was important for scheduling religious ceremonies.

The second calendar was the Haab', or secular calendar, which lasted 365 days but did not account for the extra quarter-day it takes the Earth to revolve around the sun. (The modern calendar accounts for this fraction by adding a day to February every four years, the reason we have leap years.) That means the calendar wandered a bit in relation to the seasons.

The final calendar was the Long Count Calendar -- the recording method that has caused all of the doomsday brouhaha of 2012. On Dec. 21 (approximately), the calendar completes a major cycle, which has triggered doomsday fears and mystical rumors about the end of an age

Release: Lisabet Sarai's Quarantine

Quarantine by Lisabet Sarai

When love is forbidden, the whole world's a prison.

Dylan Moore will do anything for freedom. Seven years ago, a gay plague spread to heterosexuals, killing millions and sparking brutal anti-gay riots. The Guardians rounded up men who tested positive for the homogene and imprisoned them in remote quarantine centres like desolate Camp Malheur. Since then, Dylan has hacked the camp's security systems and hoarded spare bits of electronics, seeking some way to escape. He has concluded the human guards are the only weakness in the facility's defences.

Camp guard Rafe Cowell is H-negative. He figures the lust he feels watching prisoner 3218 masturbate on the surveillance cameras must be due to his loneliness and isolation. When he finally meets the young queer, he discovers that Dylan is brilliant, brave, sexy as hell – and claims to be in love with Rafe. Despite his qualms, Rafe finds he can't resist the other man's charm. By the time Dylan asks for his help in escaping, Rafe cares too much for Dylan to refuse.

Dylan's plan goes awry and Rafe comes to his rescue. Soon they're both fugitives, fleeing from militant survivalists, murderous androids, homophobic ideologues and a powerful man who wants Dylan as his sexual toy. Hiding in the Plague-ravaged city of Sanfran, Dylan and Rafe learn there's far more than their own safety at stake. Can they help prevent the deaths of millions more people? And can Rafe trust the love of a man who deliberately seduced him in order to escape from quarantine?

Excerpt:
“You’re a horny little perv.” Rafe almost laughed at Dylan’s unquenchable eagerness for his body.

“It’s your fault. I don’t know how I survived before we got together―”

“We’re not ‘together’.” Rafe broke out of Dylan’s embrace and sat up, his arms around his knees. “We can’t keep doing this. Someone is going to figure things out before long.”

“Nobody will figure it out―”

“Don’t be so cocky. Yeah, I know you’re a genius, but do you really think you can fool the Guardians forever? One of these days you’ll make a mistake. I’ll end up in jail, and you… Well, the penalty for infecting someone with the Plague is death.”

“You’re not infected and you know it.”

“I could be. I wake up sometimes in the middle of the night and wonder if I’m going to die, just because I couldn’t keep my cock in my pants. What an asshole I am, risking my life for a fuck!”

“Is that really all I am to you?” Dylan’s customary expression of brash self-confidence melted into a pained frown. “Because you’re much more than that to me…”

Rafe heard the sob Dylan tried to suppress. Guilt tore a hole in his chest. He rose and began pacing barefoot across the concrete warehouse floor. “No,” he murmured finally, coming to a halt in front of Dylan. “That’s the worst of it. I care what happens to you―a fucking little fag who’s going to spend the rest of his life locked away for the good of society.”

“If you really care…” Dylan scooted over and sat on the edge of the pile of bags, his shapely legs dangling. “It doesn’t have to be that way.”

“What? What way?”

“Help me, Rafe. Help me get out of this place.”

Rafe snorted. “Get out? Are you crazy? No one can get out of here!”

“I can,” said Dylan, with a hint of a smile. “With your assistance, that is. I have a plan.”

“It would be suicide for me.” Rafe crossed his arms over his chest and scowled at the ginger-haired young man. The boy’s eyes were full of hope. “They’d lock me up and throw away the key.”

“No―I’ve got it all figured out. You won’t be blamed. And once I’m free, I’ll wait for you, Rafe.” Dylan’s face glowed.

“I’m stuck in this shit hole for another six months.” Rafe’s tone was harsh, but he couldn’t quench the flicker of excitement kindled by Dylan’s words.

“Six months is nothing compared to seven years. Once I make it to the city, I can disappear. When you arrive, we’ll find a way to be together. I believe we can make it, baby. You just need to believe it too.” Dylan reached out and pulled Rafe closer. He laid his head on Rafe’s chest. His fine hair tickled the guard’s naked skin.

Rafe buried his face in the nest of auburn waves, inhaling deeply. Dylan’s distinctive scent mingled with the yeasty odour of flour. The ache under his breastbone swelled to the point where it was hardly bearable. God, how he wanted this brave, brilliant guy, who was ready to risk everything for freedom! “How can you believe in anything, after what they’ve done to you?” he murmured finally, raising Dylan’s eyes to his.

“It’s you,” Dylan said. “It’s because I love you. Anything’s possible.” He tilted his chin up, offering his ripe mouth.
