#BookBlast: The Bannockburn Spell

About the author:

I am a full-blooded Canadian, right down to the maple syrup running through my veins. I enjoy watching hockey, but despise skating...and the cold.  I enjoy a good helping of Tourtiere with a side of Poutine as must as the next person, yet I am only bilingual when it comes to swear words.  I am proud to say I survived my token shot of Newfie Screech, although I did refuse to kiss the Cod - that is never going to happen - and I openly admit, that I fell in love with the Rocky Mountains the first time I saw them.

I have many occupations written down in my passport, mom, wife, author...zookeeper!  However, I have to say that writing is by far the easiest part of my day.

I have three small -but legal- addictions: bed lines, lavender, and books.  All of which, are replenished on a regular basis.  Reading into the wee hours of the morning, is one of many bad habits, next to spontaneously rearranging furniture and randomly painting rooms in my house.

 Blurb:

With the help of a bet, an eight-hundred-year-old marriage contract, and a spell, ex-SBS soldier Will might just have enough in his arsenal to capture Meghan’s heart.

Since arriving in Little Glen, Scotland, Meghan Kennedy’s life has got decidedly more interesting. She enters into a bet with hunky ex-SBS soldier, William MacKenzie, discovers an ancient marriage contract and to top it all off, she learns that she had a spell cast on her…eight hundred years before she was even born. None of it matters, because she refuses to make the same mistake twice. Will’s hard body and sexy grin don’t matter, his beautiful hypnotic eyes don’t matter, and it doesn’t matter that every time they kiss her body calls out for his, as though denied of his touch for hundreds of years.

Ex-SBS soldier William MacKenzie is disciplined, trained to be an efficient soldier and he takes the same approach with his life as he does his business. Then Meghan arrives, with her fiery temper and hair to match, all he can think about is Meghan. Her feisty temper bemuses him, her beauty astounds him and her stubbornness annoys the hell out of him. Lucky for him, he doesn’t know how to quit, he can be just as stubborn and occasionally ruthless, and he will use any means necessary to get her. Of course the ‘means’ at his disposal just happen to be a bet, a marriage contract and an ancient spell, but if in the end Meghan belongs to him, who is he to argue?

Excerpt:

“No, I’m not married, and I don’t have a boyfriend.”
            “Then why can’t you?”
“I just can’t. I told you, I’m here to see Duncan. I’ll be going home soon.” She hoped Ryan would be able to straighten this mess with Rob, then she wouldn’t be lying “It wouldn’t be right. Can we just be friends?”
His probing stare searched her face. The look was so intense that she felt herself become ashamed for not telling him the entire truth. Well, she hadn’t told him a complete lie either, she would be going home soon, she just didn’t know when. The other part was that she just wasn’t ready to get ‘involved’. Will was a scorching hot, hunky Scotsman and she couldn’t afford to fall into a trap that she had just got out of. She had been such a naïve fool, and still felt that way even after all these months. She had placed her trust in Rob, had confided in him and he’d used her, had tricked her, and had lied to her. The Dickhead.
She watched him, searching for some outward show of emotion. He showed her nothing.
“I would rather be more than yer friend Meghan—but I’ll take what I can get. For now. And as we are being honest”—his accent became thicker as he put a strong emphasis on the word honest—“wi’ each other, then let me tell you this. I can be a patient man when I need to be, but I don’t give up easily. And seeing how ye are going to make me wait I want somethin’ to tide me over.”
Despite his hard words, Will was extremely gentle as his arms surrounded her. His mouth was hot and demanding, and for a second time she became so intoxicated by his kiss that she sighed when she felt Will tug her sweater open and pin her against his hard chest.
He was right, she thought dreamily. If this was the one time she had to kiss him, it might as well be a doozy, and with that thought, she wrapped her arms around his neck.
There was a deep rumble that she thought might have come from Will’s throat but she wasn’t sure, she was too busy enjoying the feel of him. My God. He was solid muscle and hot, she felt the heat radiating off him.
He slid his hand into her hair, cupping the back of her head at the same moment he squeezed her behind, pulling her tight against his long, thick…she inhaled. He instantly took full advantage of her open mouth, slipping his tongue between her lips, and entwining it with hers in slow passionate circles. On and on the kiss went. He gripped the back of her neck, gently caressing her skin. She felt his other hand squeeze her behind, the tight hold caused her jeans to pull blissfully tight against her heating body. He explored every inch of her mouth, skimmed the edge of her teeth, until he finished off by nipping at her lips. She was so enthralled by his touching and kissing that when he pulled away, she struggled to contain a cry of protest and found herself clutching at his jacket. Dazed, she quickly let go.
“Goodnight, Meghan.” He stepped back, an arrogant flash of satisfaction covered his face.

    1. I like all genres so if something is peaking my interest I just go with it. I have ideas spinning around right now about angels, sci-fi, folk-lore and magic and of course futuristic. See... I’m all over the map. LOL

  3. Not the bed lines again! Don't confuse me. LOL.
I've been to Canada. LOVED Nova Scotia and Toronto. Never tried Newfie Screech (I'll have to google that), but I did kiss a moose...never a cod.

    1. Good question Ami.

FYI...I love doing research. I could spend days reading up on a subject that I'm using in a story.
I use everything I can get my hands on. The internet, library (adult and kids sections), movies, documentaries, anything I believe is relevant for what I'm working on. It usually ends up being way too much info but I would rather have to much information than not a enough.

One time I spend two days researching different types of solvents and cleaning agents for pistols. I even emailed a friend who is a police officer just so I could get his opinion on the different products out there.

LOL I’m sure he thinks I’m a genuine nut case now.
