Books to Movies: What are you reading?

Have I posted about this yet? The list of 14 books to read before you see the movie. Granted, there are lots of books to movies these days, and I still haven't seen Life of Pi because I loved the book so much! Haven't read the Game of Thrones series, either. Especially since the series is part way through book 3 (Storm of Swords) and I don't want to be spoiled for the rest of the show!


Besides, I like reading! And would rather read the book than see the movie.

Goals and Summer Reading

My writing goals this week are to get back into The Devil's Pawn and finish that sucker up. I want to move on to other stories. But then I always say that at about chapter 3...I know what the story is supposed to be like and think I should be able to twitch my nose and *poof!* the story is exactly what I want it to be.

But I also want to read. Isn't that what summer is for? For that I need suggestions. Fiction, romance, mystery, erotic, I don't care. I just need books! What are you currently reading?

What to talk about

Last week I read a post by Bob Mayer (a man who seems to have his plate overly full but still manages to find time to share with the rest of us). In his article, he offered several tips on writing, reading, and other related things.

If you're interested, his blog is full of great stuff. But one of the things he mentioned was: 99.5% of indie/self-published authors will be gone in two years.  Other will take their place.  And be gone in two years.

Huh. Really? Does this mean I have only one more year before I'm gone? Nope. I'm going to be in that 0.5% that lasts longer and have a plan to do so. To be fair, I never expected to be a bestseller able to retire with my first book. Or first 20 for that matter. Best seller lists don't exactly like what I write and I'm okay with that.

I'll continue to write what I enjoy, making sure each story is well researched, tightly written, and thoroughly edited.

Paranormal vs 'regular'

Was looking through some TBR books and wondered if people enjoyed or were more willing to accept menages that were paranormal than not. Is there something about alien races and threesomes that make it hotter? Or a trio of various paranormal beings (vampires, witches, werewolves, etc) that make the story more acceptable?

I don't see it, I mean not that I don't enjoy reading those types of stories (I DO!) but I mean that I think people are more willing to read/accept a combination based on the story. But I'm curious, what do you think?

What I'm reading this week

Since writing has fallen to the back burner, I'm taking some time to relax and read. Life's been more than a little hectic lately, and my writing has suffered for it. Instead of ploughing through with words I'll probably delete later, I'm taking a small break to relax and read. Or maybe just sleep. I haven't decided yet.

Going to start Debra Glass' Having Patience
Still trying to figure out how to download an audio I won from Allie Boniface's Lost in Paradise onto my MP3. I may give up and start listening to it on my laptop while I (God forbid) clean. I'm really looking forward to it. Maybe I'll just buy the e-book. Why is it I'll sit before my computer to read a book but not listen? Humph.
In between crazy work schedules and family drama, I also have a stack of steamy threesomes to get through, and I have to find and return a book a friend lent to me about first time lesbian encounters.
